eBay Dilemma

Monday, April 27, 2009

Okay, readers I have an eBay dilemma, and I need your advice. I bought a bottle of my discontinued Cucumber Baie perfume on eBay for $50, which seemed like a pretty good deal to me, especially since I have been devastated since Fresh discontinued the scent. You can imagine how excited I was when the box arrived today--a whole new bottle! However, my first spritz of the scent revealed that it's not really my scent. I suspect it's a mix of the Cucumber Baie and something else (it smells a lot like the real thing), or perhaps the Cucumber Baie cut with rubbing alcohol? I have no idea. All I know is I have a few precious drops left in my original bottle (at right above) and this new bottle just isn't the same perfume.

What is the best way to approach the seller about this? I would like a refund, as I feel that I was misled, whether intentionally or not. What do you suggest?

Hmmm.... first I would check Ebay and see if they have guidelines/protocal on what to do if a buyer receives fake goods. If there is nothing on Ebay, I would write a friendly e-mail asking for a refund and warning the seller that whoever passed on this bottle of scent to them or whoever they bought it from had given them what you suspect is a counterfeit bottle(ie you are not accusing the seller) -you have worn this scent for years and you KNOW what it is supposed to smell like. Hopefully, the seller will be reasonable and refund the money and you return the bottle. If not you may have to leave negative feedback to warn other buyers and call it a learning experience. I've been burned a few times on Ebay.
