The thought of replacing the refrigerator has gotten me thinking about the rest of the kitchen. I've got cheap cabinets and ugly counters. It wouldn't cost me too, too much to replace all the cabinetry with new ones from Ikea, and I suspect the investment would be repaid whenever it comes time to sell my apartment. I could also probably do all the work myself, since it's such a small space.
Here's a snapshot of the kitchen this morning. What do you think? Should I just bite the bullet and do the whole thing?

Unless you're thinking about a fridge of a different size or moving it I don't see why you need to do it all at once. I'd do it in stages, but that's me!
I say, go for it. You don't want to be locked into that particular size (if even available)and why wait?
Go for it. We've done it and IKEA is the way to go. It's practical, affordable and stylish. We found that getting a new countertop measured and installed is the most time consuming part of the process.
